Let’s be honest for a second. When was the last time you took a photo with your partner or your best friend that wasn’t a quick selfie?
We live in an age where we document everything. We take pictures of our brunch, our sunsets, and our outfits. But often, the most important thing is missing from those photos: Us.
With February approaching, everyone starts talking about chocolates, dinner reservations, and grand romantic gestures. Those things are fun, but they are fleeting. The chocolate gets eaten, and the dinner is forgotten by next week.
But a photograph? That is a ticket back to a moment.
The Shoebox Theory
I was thinking recently about why I love photography so much. It’s not about the camera or the lighting. It’s about that old shoebox we all have in our closets (or our parents' closets).
You know the one. You open it up, and you find a black-and-white photo of your grandparents holding hands, or a faded color print of your parents laughing before they had bills and responsibilities.
When you hold those photos, you aren't looking at "content." You are holding history. You are seeing the foundation of your own story.
Who is in your story right now?
Whether it’s the love of your life or the best friend who has been there through thick and thin, these are the relationships that define this chapter of your life.
Too often, we wait for "big" reasons to take professional photos—a wedding, a new baby, a graduation. But what about the quiet Tuesday interactions? The way you look at each other right now? The inside jokes that make you laugh until your stomach hurts?
Those are the things that deserve to be frozen in time.
Let’s Make History Together this February
This Valentine’s season, I want to encourage you to do something different. Instead of just buying a gift, create a memory.
I am opening up a limited number of sessions in February specifically for Couples and Best Friends.
We aren't going to do stiff, awkward poses where you stare at the camera and smile until your cheeks hurt. We are going to play music, move around, and capture the actual connection between you two.
I want to give you images that you will print, frame, and one day pass down to the next generation so they can say, "Wow, look how much they loved each other."
